After records become "Inactive" and the required retention period has been observed, they are disposed of in accordance with the Records Schedule.
- At the end of the records retention period, temporary records are destroyed, and permanent records are transferred to the National Archives.
- Most of the records held by PBGC are temporary and must be destroyed.
- Records destruction and transfer must be documented and coordinated with the Department's Records Coordinator.
- PBGC staff can destroy non-records and personal papers without documentation.
